Eminem's Southpaw

About Eminem

Marshall Bruce Mathers III (born October 17, 1972), better known by his stage name Eminem or his alter ego Slim Shady, is an American rapper, record producer, songwriter and actor. Eminem's popularity brought his group project, D12, to mainstream recognition.

Eminem, who admitted that at the height of his drug addiction he considered suicide, is the best-selling artist of the decade on the US Nielsen SoundScan, and has sold more than 86.5 million albums worldwide to date. He was also named the Artist of the Decade by Billboard magazine in December 2009.

According to MTV, the rapper is quoted as saying, "I've realized that the way I am helps with the music," he said about the natural personality quirks that fuel his music. "Sporadic thoughts will pop into my head, and I'll have to go write something down, and the next thing you know, I've written a whole song in an hour. But sometimes it sucks, and I wish I was wired like a regular person and could go have a f---in' drink. But that's the biggest thing about addiction: When you realize that you cannot — for f---'s sake, you cannot — f--- around with nothing ever again."

Eminem's Acting career

Although he had a small part in the 2001 film, The Wash, Eminem made his official Hollywood acting debut with the semi-autobiographical 8 Mile, released in November 2002. He has said the movie is not an account of his life, but a representation of growing up in Detroit. He recorded several new songs for the soundtrack, including "Lose Yourself," which won an Academy Award for Best Original Song in 2003. "Lose Yourself" would go on to become the longest running No. 1 hip hop single. However, the song was not performed at the ceremony, due to Eminem's absence at the ceremony. His collaborator, Luis Resto, who co-wrote the song, accepted the award.
Eminem has participated in various voice acting roles. Some of these include the video game 50 Cent: Bulletproof, where he voices an aging corrupt police officer who speaks in Ebonics and guest spots on the Comedy Central television show Crank Yankers, and a web cartoon called The Slim Shady Show, which has since been pulled off-line and is instead sold on DVD. He will be involved in either the soundtrack or scoring. He was also in the running for the part of David Rice in 2008's film Jumper after Tom Sturridge was dropped just two weeks before filming. Concerns over not having a more prominent actor prompted the director, Doug Liman, to consider other actors for the role. He eventually selected Hayden Christensen over Eminem. He also had a cameo appearance in the 2009 movie Funny People, in which he is involved in an argument with Ray Romano.
It was reported on November 8, 2009, that Eminem will star in the upcoming 3D horror anthology, Shady Talez, to be produced by John Davis. A four-issue comic book series based on the film was expected to be published sometime in 2010.
Eminem appeared alongside Christina Aguilera on the Entourage Season 7 finale titled 'Lose Yourself' as himself.
Eminem is set to play a boxer in the upcoming film Southpaw. Peter Schiff will produce the film, and Antoine Fuqua is reportedly the leading candidate to direct. In January 2011, a report surfaced that Eminem will star in the upcoming thriller, Random Acts of Violence.

Eminem to play a boxer in 'Southpaw'

EXCLUSIVE: DreamWorks has made a preemptive acquisition of Southpaw, a pitch for a star vehicle for Eminem (Marshall Mathers) that will be written by Sons of Anarchy creator/exec producer Kurt Sutter. Like in Eminem's 2002 screen starring debut 8 Mile, Southpaw will be fueled by the struggles that inform Eminem's music and mirror his life. Eminem will play a fast-rising welterweight boxer who brawls his way to the title, only to see his world crash down around him due to tragedy. The movie is about his fight to reclaim past glory.

He is very interested in the boxing genre, and it seemed like an apt metaphor, because his own life has been a brawl.
I love that the title refers to Marshall being a lefty, which is to boxing what a white rapper is to hip hop; dangerous, unwanted and completely unorthodox. It's a much harder road for a southpaw than a right handed boxer."
The movie, written by the legendary rapper himself and Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter, will be directed by Antoine Fuqua (Training Day).

Although he's had a few minor roles since 8 Mile, Eminem has not had a leading role since the 2002 film.

Expect Southpaw to be a combination of 8 Mile, Training Day and Rocky.

Why This Flim is Named "Southpaw"

People who are left handed make up about 5 to 15 percent of the population.Among this 5 to 15 percent Eminem is one of them.Left handed people tend to be more likely to be on the extreme ends of the intelligence scale then right handed people. Left handed people tend to have a higher portions of mentally retarded people and they also have a higher tendency to be people with high IQ"S. Left handed people who have higher I.Q.s tend to have an I.Q. of over 140.

In the late l890's Left handed people got the nickname of southpaw. Because most baseball fields were laid out were the pitcher is facing west and the batter facing east, so the sun wouldn't be the batter's eyes. When a left handed pitcher threw a ball it was with his arm that was toward the south so left handed people started to be called Southpaws.

Eminem's 'Southpaw' Boxing Movie Back On Track

Sony Pictures picks up film, pegged to start production early next year.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the scrappy tale of a welterweight boxer who becomes a champ despite being a lefty has gotten off the mat and is back in contention.
Sony Pictures Entertainment has picked up the flick, which would be Marshall Mathers' first major movie role since his acclaimed debut in the semi-autobiographical 2002 drama "8 Mile." The movie is expected to start production early next year and will be directed by Antoine Fuqua ("Training Day"), from a script written by Em and "Sons of Anarchy" creator Kurt Sutter.

What Sutter says on this Flim

“In a way, this is a continuation of the 8 Mile story, but rather than a literal biography, we are doing a metaphorical narrative of the second chapter of his life. He’ll play a world champion boxer who really hits a hard bottom, and has to fight to win back his life for his young daughter. At its core, this is a retelling of his struggles over the last five years of his life, using the boxing analogy. I love that the title refers to [Eminem] being a lefty, which is to boxing what a white rapper is to Hip Hop; dangerous, unwanted and completely unorthodox. It’s a much harder road for a southpaw than a right-handed boxer.”

New Eminem Movie 'Southpaw' Cancelled!

Eminem's latest movie has been cancelled by Dreamworks, allegedly because of stiff competition from other fighter films to be released.

Scheduled to start shooting next year, the 38-year-old ‘Without Me’ rapper was due to star in the film about a boxer who must overcome misfortune to get back to the top.
The synopsis describes Eminem’s role as a "fast-rising welterweight boxer who brawls his way to the title, only to see his world crash down around him due to a tragedy."
Although the studio hasn’t released an official statement, speculation is that due to the large number of fighter movies due out next year this project was axed.
On the upside, the project has been handed back to Slim Shady and the film’s director, 'Training Day's' Antoine Fuqua, who can now pitch it to rival studios in the hope of getting it made before it loses momentum.
It was 10 years ago that Eminem’s performance in film ‘8 Mile’ won critical acclaim and won him an Oscar for the film’s theme song ‘Lose Yourself.’
